NU Offers Supply Chain Courses For Professionals

Niagara University’s Center for Supply Chain Excellence (NCSCE) was established in 2000 and is dedicated to satisfying the educational needs of the regional business community in the professional fields of logistics, transportation, and management.  In recent years, the center has developed a strong reputation for helping managers grow their understanding of supply chain management by offering courses on SCM fundamentals, the latest trends, and practical ideas that can immediately improve operations. Firms as diverse as Delphi, Xerox, and Yahoo have participated, in addition to dozens of small and medium size Western New York firms. Each has found the center’s programs to be convenient and highly affordable compared to national supply chain management training.

In today’s global economy, a supply chain must be reliable and cost efficient for business success. NCSCE has put together a great group of academic and professional industry leaders.

Jack Ampuja, the center’s executive director, has over 30 years of experience with five Fortune 500 firms. Ampuja has been certified in transportation and logistics by the American Society of Transportation and Logistics (ASTL), in customer service by the International Customer Service Association (ICSA) and in purchasing management by the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM). He will be teaching supply chain management, packaging ,and warehousing.

Dr. Jim Kling, who recently obtained his CSCMP SCPro Level 1 certification, founded the center and is its academic director. He earned his Ph.D. in business management, specializing in transportation and logistics, from the University of Maryland.  He teaches sections on supply chain, transportation, and inventory, and believes the seminars are particularly valuable for professionals.

“We often see people doing an excellent job managing their own area of responsibility, but when they see how different parts of the supply chain interact in regards to customer service or costs, this opens up new opportunities,” Dr. Kling said.

Other guest lecturers for the May session include Debora Alessi, director of contracting with Premier Inc., Michael Diati, vice president of Speed Global Services, John Hogg, president  and owner of Straight-Forwarding Consulting, and Dr. Anna McNab, associate professor of MIS at Niagara University.

  • Transportation & Freight Management — Tuesday, May 17
  • Purchasing & Supply Management — Wednesday, May 18
  • International Logistics — Thursday, May 19
  • Inventory Management & Warehousing — Friday, May 20

All seminars will be held on the campus of Niagara University from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch is included. Take home materials for each course are also provided.
